Jaguar River Lodge

Jaguar River Lodge

Located in the richest area in the world for seeing jaguars, the Jaguar River Lodge is comfortable with king size beds, air conditioning, modern bath, and excellent local food. Our naturalist guides are some of the best, and together with our boatmen, take you into the richest areas for jaguars and many other creatures.

Jaguars range from northern Argentina to the southern United States, but south of the Amazon, the palustris subspecies far out sizes its cousins to the north. Male Panthera onca palustris can weigh over 350 pounds, over 160kg. The area we visit is the stronghold of these creatures, and we have had tours that have seen up to 11 sightings in one day. Enjoy the photos of these different cats below!

We offer packages starting in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, with durations of 3, 4 and 6 day packages including transport from the Cuiabá airport, all meals, all boat travel from Caceres, and the guides and boatmen. Contact us if you have any questions or would like to check the availability space. We operate with just 6 participants and a naturist guide per boat, and do not got to the same places as other boats on the same days, increasing the chances of see these graceful creatures. Other offerings are explained below.

We also regularly see a number of other endangered species, including Giant River Otters (Pteronura brasiliensis) and Marsh Deer (Blastocerus dichotomous) as well as Brazilian Tapir (Tapirus terrestris), Black-and-gold Howler (Alouatta caraya) and the robustus race of Brown Capuchin Monkey (Cebus apella robustus). Bird life is also spectacular with Hyacinth Macaws (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus), Black-hooded (Nandayus nenday) and Blue-crowned (Aratinga acuticaudata) parakeets, Plumbeous Ibis (Theristicus caerulescens), Yellow-billed Cardinal (Paroaria capitata), the endemic Chestnut-bellied Guan (Penelope ochrogaster) and others. As the Paraguay River connects to the north with forest in the Amazon Basin, a number of species from the Amazon are found as well. Look for Orange-winged Parrot (Amazona amazonica) and Yellow-billed Tern (Sterna superciliaris). We recently photographed the first Bare-necked Fruitcrow (Gymnoderus foetidus) sighting in the Pantanal. We know our birds as well as our mammals, and are willing to show you the best of the Pantanal!
